Food

This is a post that could potentially go on forever, and I already have a tendency to overdo it. So let me just go over the basics:

Hot meals - every other day or so. Saves on weight and cost of fuel. Hot meals that I am trying out include easy mac, ramen, instant rice, instant potato, quinoa, cous cous, etc. I am spicing these meals up by adding dehydrated veggies and meats. I have everything from onion and asparagus to bacon bits and chicken.

Cold meals - ummm.... your guess is as good as mine. I leave in two days and I have no set cold meals. All I can think is that I will resupply in towns and something will work itself out. Right?

Energy bars - I make my own. Usually a huge lump of any of the following in various combinations: nuts, oatmeal, cereal, raisins, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, honey, peanut butter, marshmallow cream, nutella, mixed berries, olive oil, multivitamins ground into powder, eggs, and oreo cookies. Because each batch is different, and there is no recipe, I usually have to keep a close eye on the oven. But approximately 25 minutes for a batch of 25 bars. Not only does making my own bars save money and allow me greater flexibility, but at 300 to 400 per bar it also packs in way more calories per bar than stor-bought!

Energy drink - an easy way to force down some more calories is to make an energy drink. I use two packets of Carnation Instant Breakfast, three packets of hot chocolate mix, two tablespoons of malted milk mix, and two tablespoons of instant coffee. Tastes good, is easy to drink mixed into approximately a liter and a half of water, and adds 500 to 600 calories.
