D-Day

Decision Day is here!

On Tuesday I was fortunate enough to meet up with David, a NorCal local who is also kicking around the idea of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail this year. He was nice enough to take me to lunch at The Olive Garden, where I talked his ear off about gear and planning. He seemed a lot more laid back about than I was, in part because he has hiked a large section of the trail before (Highway 80 to Ashland). His advice to me was to do the proper planning, sure, but also to just relax and enjoy it, and to realize that it can be a lot less complicated than I was propbably wont to make it. I left feeling a little better about my preparations for the trip, so thanks to David for that!

David and I are also in a similar boat in terms of the job vs. trail situation. He is looking at going back to work, though I think he would much rather be out there on the PCT. I know how he feels, though, because he has a wife and kids to think about. I was in a similar situation last year, when I was contemplating the trasil but had a serious relationship and a mortgage to pay. I am still planning on going to an interview on the 6th, but if that doesn't work out, I am going full bore for the PCT!
