Feasting

I'll try to keep this short and sweet, in part because I don't have a lot to say, and also because I just ate a lot of turkey and the bed is calling me.

I spent a little time fixing up my feet today. I cut off about half of the toenail on each big toe. They are dead and will fall off soon anyway, but until then I don't want them snagging on anything. I also soaked my feet in hydrogen peroxide, to kill any nasties I may have. Blisters are turning to calluses, which is good. That just leaves some deep tissue bruising that is almost gone.

The rest of my day was spent procuring food for the trail or stuffing my face. Of the 15 pounds I lost, 5 were added back quickly (I chalked most of that up to dehydration). But to ensure I don't start burning muscle I went to Costco and bought peanut m&m's, peanut butter pretzels, assorted chips, and snack crackers.

For dinner we headed over to Aunt Sema and Uncle Chris' house. While dinner was being cooked we headed out for a walk in Montana De Oro Park. There I explored a small wash, looking for a bobcat that Uncle Chris suspected might live there. After that we found a couple of baby rattlesnakes by the trailside. Then back to the house for a huge meal of delicious turkey, mashed potatoes,  gravy, green salad, and bean salad. Topped it all off with an awesome dessert of something like angel food cake with fruit, smothered in cream. I think I feel those calories coming back!

Fun facts for the day:

1. When congress established the PCT they stipulated that it not have more than a 7% grade. So the existing trails that were incorporated are a stark contrast to the well groomed and moderate slopes of the newly made trail.

2. I checked my blood pressure for fun. 116 over 70 with a resting heart rate of 51. Definitely improved since I started the trail.

That's all for now!
